Xavier University is a private Jesuit university in Cincinnati and Norwood, Ohio. It is the fourth-oldest Jesuit university and the sixth-oldest Catholic university in the U.S. In the 2019 U.S. News & World Report, it was ranked 8^th among 172 Midwest institutions.

History

In 1831, The Athenaeum, a men's college, was founded and dedicated to the patronage of Saint Francis Xavier by Bishop Edward Fenwick. The name was changed in 1840 to St. Xavier College in honor of St. Francis Xavier, the 16^th century Spanish Jesuit missionary. In 1912, the college moved to its current Norwood location. In 1969, Xavier fully admitted women. Another Catholic college called Edgecliff College merged with Xavier University in 1980.

Academics & Campus

The 205-acre campus is in the City of Cincinnati in the Norwood neighborhood. The university has the following colleges: The College of Nursing and the Williams College of Business, The College of Professional Sciences, and The College of Arts and Sciences.

Xavier offers more than 90 majors and is primarily an undergraduate liberal arts institution. It has a graduate enrollment of 2,165 students and an undergrad enrollment of 4,485 students. There are a variety of student activities, such as the club's sports program and community service. The following community service programs include the Nexus community garden, X-CHANGE program, Community Action Day, St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen, and more.

Athletics -Musketeers

The sports teams compete at the NCAA Division I level in the Big East Conference.

The Musketeers athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, and track & field.

In 2019, the men's volleyball club team was placed in 2^nd at Nationals, which no other team in school history has made it that far in a national tournament. The men's basketball team has reached the Elite Eight three times. In 2014, the men's swim team earned the school's first Big East Conference Championship. Go Navy Blue, White, & Silver!
