The University of Wisconsin—Whitewater is a public university in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The school is part of the University of Wisconsin System.

 

History 

Whitewater Normal School was established in 1868. It was authorized to grant baccalaureate degrees in education in 1927, becoming Whitewater Teachers College. The liberal arts program was added in 1951, and the school was renamed Wisconsin State College—Whitewater. In 1964, it was later named Wisconsin State University. The university became part of the UW System in 1971 and took its present name.

 

Academics & Campus

The campus encompasses 400 acres. UWW offers 47 undergrad majors and 13 graduate programs. In the 2014-15 academic year, student enrollment was 12,000+ representing 40 states and 30 countries.

 

The university is home to 170+ recognized student clubs and organizations. In addition, the Greek Life participates in annual philanthropy, community service projects, homecoming week activities, socials, and professional networking skills and opportunities.

 

In addition, UW-Whitewater offers programs for students with disabilities called Cornerstones for Success. This allows athletes the opportunity to join in with other students across the Midwest. UWW also has men and women wheelchair basketball programs, which have both won national championships.

 

A few notable alumni at UW-Whitewater includes Matt Blanchard, former NFL quarterback; John Belushi, actor; Merton W. Baker, U.S. Air Force Major General; Earl Arms, journalist; and Bidal Aguero, Hispanic political activist and newspaper publisher.

Athletics – Warhawks

The sports teams are members of NCAA Division III as part of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

 

The Warhawks athletic teams include:

 

Women: basketball, bowling, cross country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

 

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and wrestling.

 

In 2013-14, the athletics program made collegiate sports history after winning the men’s baseball, basketball, and football championships. UWW is the first school in NCAA history in any division to experience a three-sport sweep in the same academic year. Go Warhawks!
