The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) is a public university in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It is also part of the University of Wisconsin System.

History

In 1958, the University of Wisconsin-Extension's Green Bay had grown to become the second-largest of UW-Extension's eight freshman-sophomore centers. It was the largest in 1965, and in 1963, the Coordinating Committee for Higher Education decided to build a new university in the Fox Valley.

Governor Warren Knowles proposed that the freshman-sophomore campuses in Green Bay and Kenosha be expanded. In the fall of 1968, UW-Green Bay was officially opened and moved to its current location a year later.

Academics & Campus

The 200-acre campus on the northeast side of Green Bay overlooks Lake Michigan's bay and has many natural areas. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay consists of 28 residential buildings and four colleges. In addition, there are regional campuses in Sheboygan, Manitowoc, and Marinette.

Colleges include the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology; College of Health, Education and Social Welfare; College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; and Austin E. Cofrin School of Business. The top undergraduate majors at the university are Nursing, Human Biology, Integrative Leadership Studies, Psychology, and Business Administration.

As of Fall 2016, roughly 7,030 students were enrolled, and approximately 2,000 students reside on campus. Notable alumni at UWGB include Alec Brown, Kathi Bennett, Kevin MacLeod, Mike Grell, Nick Mortensen, Tony Bennett, and Tony Shalhoub.

Athletics -Phoenix

The sports teams are an NCAA Division I school and is a members of the Horizon League.

The Phoenix athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, golf, Nordic skiing, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, and volleyball.

Men: basketball, cross country, golf, Nordic skiing, soccer, and swimming & diving.

The women's basketball team has won or tied 20 times for the Horizon League regular-season championship. They have also been to the NCAA tournament 20 times and have made two appearances in the WNIT. Go Green & White!
