University of Wisconsin—Platteville is a public university in Platteville, Wisconsin. It is part of the University of Wisconsin System.
In 1959, the university grew from the merger of the Wisconsin Institute of Technology and Wisconsin State College, Platteville. The school was named Wisconsin State College and Institute of Technology. It was granted university status in 1966 and renamed Wisconsin State University—Platteville. In 1971, it merged with the University of Wisconsin and took its current name.
In 1978, UW-Platteville introduced print-based courses for long-distance students to learn. Online graduate programs like criminal justice, engineering, and project management were created in 1999.
Academics & Campus
The campus has three colleges and 13 residence halls that serve 8,000+ students. There are 3,000 other students that study through UWP’s five distance education programs.
The university not only has accredited degree programs but also has developed online leadership and management courses associated with the Wisconsin Department of Justice along with on-site project management courses. The University of Wisconsin—Platteville has more than 250 clubs and organizations, such as the American Foundry Society.

Athletics – Pioneers
The sports teams are members of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Pioneers athletic teams include:
Women: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, track & field, and volleyball.
Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, soccer, track & field, and wrestling.
The men’s basketball team won four NCAA Division III championships and qualified for the Division III tournament from 1991-1999. Go Orange & Blue!
