The University of Vermont (UVM), officially known as The University of Vermont and State Agricultural College, is a public land-grant research university. UVM is listed as one of the original eight “Public Ivy” institutions and is classified among “R2: Doctoral Universities—High research activity.” According to the 2021 U.S. News & World Report, the university is ranked tied for 118th among national university rankings.

History 

In 1791, the University of Vermont was established as a private university. At the same time, Vermont became the 14th U.S. state. It is among the oldest universities in the U.S., and it is the fifth institution of higher education established in the New England region of the U.S. northeast.

Academics & Campus

Located in Burlington, Vermont, the campus is comprised of seven undergraduate schools, an honors college, a graduate college, and a college of medicine. UVM also has four unlimited dining halls and a variety of other dining options.

The university offers a public ivy experience to 10,585 students. The student body has 100+ undergraduate majors to choose from as well as 200+ clubs and organizations. Vermont’s Greek Community is also one of the oldest in the nation, with the first fraternal organization beginning in 1836.

Athletics –Catamounts

All sports teams compete at the NCAA Division I level, with most teams competing in the American East Conference. The men’s and women’s hockey teams compete in the Hockey East Association, and the alpine and Nordic ski teams compete in the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association.

The Catamounts’ athletics program includes:

Women: basketball, cross country, skiing, soccer, swimming and diving, hockey track and field, and lacrosse.

Men: basketball, soccer, cross country, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing, and track, and field.

The Catamounts have won six national championships in skiing. Go Green & Gold!
