The University of Tulsa (TU) is a private research university in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is classified among R2: Doctoral Universities—High research activity.

History

Founded in 1882, in Muskogee, Indian Territory, the Presbyterian School for Girls aimed to offer primary education to young women of the Creek Nation. The school expanded in 1894 as Henry Kendall College, named after Reverend Henry Kendall, the secretary of the Presbyterian Board of Home Missions. In 1920, it merged with McFarlin College to become The University of Tulsa.

Academics & Campus

The campus consists of six colleges, six residence halls, six sorority houses, six apartment complexes, and eight townhouses. TU offers 67 undergraduate programs, 47 graduate programs, and 10 doctoral programs. 4,352 students are enrolled and represent 30 states and 70+ foreign countries. The most common countries include China, Saudi Arabia, Oman, India, Canada, Angola, and the UK. The university hosts 200+ student organizations such as six IFC fraternities and six NPC sororities.

Athletics -Golden Hurricane

The sports teams compete in Division I of the NCAA as members of the American Athletic Conference.

The Golden Hurricane athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: basketball, cross-country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field.

The University of Tulsa has won six national championships, three of them NCAA championships.
