The University of Toledo (UT) is a public research university in Toledo, Ohio. The University System of Ohio, is the northernmost campus. UT is classified among R2: Doctoral Universities—High research activity.

History

In 1872, the Toledo University of Arts and Trades was founded in downtown Toledo. However, it closed after six years of operation and was turned over to the city. It reopened in 1884, named the Toledo Manual Training School. Throughout the years, it developed from a vocational school into a university and moved to Ottawa in 1931.

Academics & Campus

UT has over 100 major buildings on an area of 1,600+ acres. Along with the main campus, the university operates a 450-acre Health Science campus, a satellite campus in the Scott Park neighborhood, the Center for the Visual Arts, and Lake Erie Center. Toledo offers 250+ academic programs and is the sixth-largest university in Ohio in terms of enrollment. Lastly, the university has more than 300 student organizations.

Athletics -Rockets

The sports teams are members of the Mid-American Conference.

The Rocket's athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, and tennis.

The football team has nine Mid-American Conference championship wins. In 2006-07, the basketball team was the Mid-American Conference champions. Go Rockets!
