The University of the Pacific (Pacific or UOP) is a private Methodist-affiliated university. It is the oldest chartered university in California and the first independent, coeducational campus in the state.

History

The university was first chartered in 1851 in Santa Clara, California, and was named California Wesleyan College. In 1923, the campus relocated to the city of Stockton and became the first private four-year university in the Central Valley. It changed its name to the University of the Pacific in 1961.

Academics & Campus

The university has campuses in Sacramento, San Francisco, and Stockton, California. UOP's 13-acre Sacramento campus consists of 24 buildings and is located in the Oak Park neighborhood, south of downtown. The Stockton campus has three main residential halls.

Pacific offers 80+ undergraduate areas of study, including 12 accelerated programs, 30+ graduate and professional programs in 11 schools and colleges, along with a continuing education program. It is also home to the first conservatory of music and the first medical school on the West Coast. UOP is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. As of 2019, the Stockton campus had 4,921 students, and 10% of the student body are members of a social fraternity or sorority.

Athletics –Tigers

The sports teams compete in NCAA Division I as members of the West Coast Conference.

The Tigers' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, track and field, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, sand volleyball, and water polo.

Men: baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, and water polo.

The Tigers have two national championships in women's volleyball and have advanced to 24 NCAA Tournaments, and have nine Final Fours appearances.
