The University of Southern Maine (USM) is a public university with three campuses across Maine: Portland, Gorham, and Lewiston. USM is the southernmost of the University of Maine System.

Academics & Campus

As of 2021, the University of Southern Maine had 5,950 undergrads and 1,750 graduate students. It provides 1,600+ courses, as well as the Computer Science degree program, which is ABET-accredited. USM is one of two schools in the state of Maine to offer such a degree.

What is the History of the University of Southern Maine?

Gorham Normal School and the University of Maine at Portland merged in 1970 and eventually expanded to the Lewiston campus in 1988. The school's name was changed to the University of Southern Maine in 1978.

Which NCAA Sports Do the Huskies Play?

The majority of the sports team plays at the NCAA Division III level in the Little East Conference. However, the wrestling team competes as an independent Division III team, and the men's and women's ice hockey teams are members of the ECAC East.

Women: Basketball, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Track & Field (Indoor/Outdoor), and Volleyball.
