What is the History of the University of North Carolina Asheville?

Founded in 1927 as Buncombe County Junior College, the school merged with the College of the City of Asheville in 1930 to form Biltmore Junior College. In 1934 the college was renamed Biltmore College, and in 1961, Asheville-Biltmore College moved to the present campus in north Asheville. It became a state-supported four-year college in 1963. It adopted its current name in 1969 upon becoming part of the University of North Carolina System.

Which NCAA Sports Do the Bulldogs Play?

The Bulldogs are members of the NCAA's Division I and compete in the Big South Conference.

The Bulldog's athletic program includes:

Women: Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Track & Field, and Volleyball.

Men: Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Soccer, Tennis, and Track & Field.

The women's basketball team won the NAIA national championship in 1984. The men's basketball has now won 15 games in a season for 11 consecutive seasons—a league record. Go Blue & White!
