What is the History of the University of North Dakota?

Founded in 1883, UND began six years before North Dakota became a state. George H. Walsh, a native of Grand Forks, submitted the bill to the Territorial Legislature of Dakota Territory that called for the new university to be located in Grand Forks.

Which NCAA Sports Do the Fighting Hawks Play?

The University of North Dakota competes in NCAA's Division I. The men's ice hockey team competes in the NCHC, and the women's hockey team competes in the WCHA. The remaining sports compete in the Big Sky Conference except for basketball.

The Fighting Hawks' athletics program includes:

Women: basketball, volleyball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, track and field, and tennis.

Men: basketball, cross country, football, golf, hockey, tennis, and track and field.

The men's ice hockey team has won eight national championships and has been runner-up five times. Go Green & White!
