What is the History of the University of North Carolina Wilmington?

The school was established in 1947 as a junior college called Wilmington College. Its initial purpose was to educate WWII veterans. In 1963, it became a 4-year liberal arts college, subsequent to the legislation from the North Carolina General Assembly. The institution was renamed in 1969 to the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

The Seahawks' athletics program includes:

Women: basketball, beach volleyball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, and tennis.

Men: basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, and track and field.
