The University of North Alabama (UNA) is a public university in Florence, Alabama. It is the oldest public university in the state and is considered an M1; Master's Colleges and Universities: Larger Programs.

History

LaGrange College was established in 1830 and was reestablished as the first state-supported teachers' college south of the Ohio River. It became one of the first coeducational colleges in the U.S. a year later. The college became Florence Wesleyan University in 1855.

Academics & Campus

The 130-acre campus is located in a residential section of Florence. Within its five colleges, UNA offers 80+ different areas of study, 45 master's degree programs, 219 bachelor's degree programs, and concentrations, four micro-credentials, three education specialist degree programs, and one doctoral program. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The total enrollment for the Fall 2019 semester was 8,046 undergrad and graduate students. UNA is home to a vibrant Greek Life and represents less than ten percent of the student population.

Athletics -Lions

The sports teams are members of the NCAA Division I ASUN Conference, except for its football team, which is a football-only member of the FCS Big South Conference.

The Lions athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, beach volleyball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, and tennis.

The Lions have seven national titles, dozens of No. 1 national rankings, and over 40 conference championships, Go Purple & Gold!
