The University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) is a private Catholic university in Detroit, Michigan. It is sponsored by the Society of Jesus and the Religious Sisters of Mercy. UDM is also the largest Catholic university in the state.

History

Dating back to 1877, Detroit College was founded by the Society of Jesus under the leadership of John Baptist Miège. In 1911, the college became the University of Detroit, and the Sisters of Mercy established Mercy College of Detroit in 1941. In 1990, the two schools consolidated to become the University of Detroit Mercy.

Academics & Campus

There are three campuses at UDM, which include The McNichols Campus, The Corktown Campus, and The Riverfront Campus. The university also offers academic programs at Macomb University Center in Clinton Township, Michigan. It also has a Nursing prelicensure program at Aquinas College and St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Within its seven colleges and schools, the University of Detroit Mercy provides 100+ academic degrees and programs of study in architecture, clinical psychology, business, dentistry, engineering, law, liberal arts, nursing, and allied health professions.

Athletics – Titans

The sports teams are a member of the Horizon League.

The Titans athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, fencing, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and track and field.

Men: basketball, cross country, fencing, golf, lacrosse, soccer, and track, and field.

In 2013, the men’s lacrosse team won the MAAC Championship. The women’s golf team and the men’s cross country team earned Horizon League titles in 2014. In 2019, the softball team won the Horizon League Championship. Go Titans!
