The University of Central Florida (UCF), located in Orange County, is a public research university. It is part of the State University System of Florida. According to the 2015 U.S. News & World Report, UCF was ranked as the third-best up-and-coming national university.

History

The university was established y the Florida State Legislature in 1963 after residents and local leaders lobbied to increase access to higher education on the Space Coast. UCF was founded as a non-segregated and coeducational institution, educating students for space-age careers.

Academics & Campus

The university's central campus is located near Alafaya Trail on the east side of Orlando, Florida. The majority of the student population resides on the main campus, with 11,000 beds and eight different housing communities. There are 13 colleges at 10 regional campuses in Central Florida. These 13 colleges house 41 separate degree-granting departments and schools. UCF also has more than 600+ registered student organizations on campus, including sports and an active Student Government Association.

The University of Central Florida offers 101 baccalaureate programs, 88 master's programs, 31 doctoral programs, three specialist programs, and one professional program. There is also 42 study abroad programs that are located in 21 countries. It has one of the largest student bodies in the nation, with approximately 70,000 students enrolled. Each student represents 67 Florida counties, all 50 states, and 157 countries.

Athletics –Knights

The UCF Knights compete in Division I of the NCAA and the American Athletic Conference.

The Knights' athletics program includes Baseball, Basketball (M+W), Cheerleading, Cross Country (W), Football, Golf (M+W), Rowing (W), Soccer (M+W), Softball, Tennis (M+W), Track and Field (W), and Volleyball (W).

The football program competed in the playoffs three times as well as winning two conference championships and four division titles. The men's basketball team has advanced to the NCAA tournament ten times and has won seven conference regular-season championships along with five conference tournament titles. Go Black & Gold!
