University of Central Arkansas (UCA) is a state university in Conway, Arkansas. It is known as the largest institution in the state.

History

In 1907, the Arkansas State Normal School was established by the Arkansas State Legislature. The school trained students to become professional teachers. After President Silas Snow took over, he championed the name change of the school in 1967. The State Department of Higher Education renamed the institution The University of Central Arkansas.

Academics & Campus

The university is comprised of 120+ buildings within 356 acres. Within its six colleges, there are over 150 undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. UCA has nearly 12,000 students enrolled. Greek life was established in 1915 on the campus, and there are now 29 Greek organizations.

Athletics –Bears

The sports teams participate in NCAA at the Division (FCS) level as a member of the Southland Conference. The Bears and Sugar Bears will move to the ASUN Conference in July 2021. The university didn't have a mascot until 1920.

The Bears' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and beach volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, and track and field.

There are 600+ male and female student-athletes at Central Arkansas. The football team won over 26 conference championships and three national championships. Go Purple & Gray!
