The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) is a public historically black university in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. UAPB is the second oldest and largest public institution in the state. It is part of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the University of Arkansas System.

History

In 1873, the Branch Normal College was authorized by the Reconstruction-era legislature and opened two years later. It is a historically black college and was part of the normal department of Arkansas Industrial University. Later on, it was designated as a land-grant college under the 1890 Morrill Land-Grant Acts.

In 1927, it became Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical & Normal College and moved to its current location in 1929. The college gained university status in 1972, becoming the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.

Academics & Campus

The university is divided into eight academic divisions: Carolyn F. Blakely Honors Program; Graduate Studies & Continuing Education; Military Science; The School of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Human Sciences; The School of Business and Management; The School of Education; and University College. It is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

UAPB enrolls 2,498 students. Eight National Pan-Hellenic Council sororities and fraternities are represented on campus. It is also home to four National Interfraternity Music Council fraternities and sorority organizations. Less than 5% of the student body participates in Greek Life. Notable alumni at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff include Chris Mercer, Danny K. Davis, Jamil Nasser, Martha S. Lewis, and Samuel L. Kountz.

Athletics -Golden Lions

The sports teams participate in NCAA Division I in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and compete in the Football Championship Subdivision.

The Golden Lions athletic teams include:
