Tennessee Technological University is a public research university in Cookeville, Tennessee. It is affiliated with the Tennessee Board of Regents and is classified among R2: Doctoral Universities—High research activity.

History

Originally known as the University of Dixie, it was chartered in 1909. In 1915, the state government took over and chartered the new Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. It received university status in 1965.

The 235-acre campus consists of 87 buildings. TTU has a total of 44 bachelor's, 20 graduate programs, and doctoral programs in the fields of environmental sciences, engineering, and education. The university emphasizes STEM degrees. As of 2018, 10,000+ students were enrolled.

Athletics -Golden Eagles

The sports teams compete in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Golden Eagles athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, and tennis.

The rifle team won three NCAA Division I National Championships and one Individual. Go Purple & Gold!
