Troy University (TU) is a public university in Troy, Alabama. It is the flagship university of the Troy University System and is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. According to the 2018 U.S. News & World Report, TU was ranked No. 19 among the Most Innovative Schools.

History

In 1887, Troy State Normal School was founded, within the Alabama State University System, to educate and train new teachers. In 1957, the school evolved into a four-year college, and the Alabama Board of Education granted it the right to issue master's degrees.

Academics & Campus

The main campus is located near downtown Troy and consists of 36 buildings on 650 acres. TU has five colleges, a graduate school, and 12 residential halls. The university offers 46 bachelor's degree programs, 22 master's degree programs, and three doctoral programs. Overall, the institution serves a wide array of students amongst four Alabama campuses and 60 teaching sites in 17 states and 11 countries. There are approximately 18,086 students enrolled. Troy University is home to 22 traditional Greek organizations.

Athletics –Trojans

The sports teams compete in Division I of the NCAA as members of the Sun Belt Conference (FCS).

The Trojans' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, tennis, and track and field.

The football team has won three national championships, the NAIA national football championship, and two NCAA Division II national football championships. The baseball team won two Division II national championships. Go Trojans!
