About Texas State University Boko the Bobcat

Texas State University is a public research university located in San Marcos, Texas. It is the largest institution in the Texas State University System and the fifth-largest university in the state. Academics & Campus

The main campus is comprised of 245 buildings on 492 acres, located along the San Marcos River. It also has a satellite campus at the Texas State University Round Rock Campus in the greater north Austin area. Roughly 20% of students live on-campus or in university-owned housing. Texas State offers over 300 student organizations such as Greek organizations, academic groups, honors societies, service groups, sports clubs, and common interest groups.

Within its ten colleges and fifty schools, TSU provides more than 200 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs. As of fall 2018, there are 38,500 students enrolled. In 2014, the Hispanic student body was 32% and was designated HIS.

What is the History of Texas State University?

In 1899, the school was established as the Southwest Texas State Normal School when state representative Fred Cocke proposed having a school that provided manual training and taught domestic sciences and agriculture. Any student that earned a diploma and teaching certificate from Southwest was authorized to teach in Texas public schools. In 2013, the name was officially changed for the seventh time in history to Texas State University

Which NCAA Sports do the Bobcats Play?

The intercollegiate sports teams compete in NCAA Division I and the Sun Belt Conference.

The Bobcats' athletics program includes:

Women: basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, and track and field.

The baseball team claimed four Southland Conference tournament championships. The men's basketball program claimed 11 regular-season conference titles since 1950. The women's soccer team won five regular-season conference championships and five postseason conference tournaments. Go Maroon & Gold!
