Tarleton State University is a public university in Stephenville, Texas. It is a charter member of the Texas A&M University System.

History

In 1899, John Tarleton Agricultural College was established with the help of settler John Tarleton. It was renamed Tarleton State College in 1949 and became a four-year degree-granting institution ten years later. The school gained university status in 1973 and didn't begin offering doctoral programs until 2003.

Academics & Campus

The main campus is in Stephenville and covers a 180-acre area. Additional campuses include Tarleton-Central Texas and Tarleton-Fort Worth. Near the university is an 800-acre operational university farm, and it also operates the 1,170-acre Hunewell Ranch.

In addition, Tarleton offers specialized programs: Bryan at the RELLIS Campus, Dora Lee Langdon Cultural and Educational Center in Granbury, programs in Fort Worth, McLennan Community College in Waco, and Weatherford College in Weatherford.

Tarleton State University has seven colleges: Science & Technology, Liberal & Fine Arts, Health Sciences & Human Services, Graduate Studies, Education, Business Administration, and Agriculture & Environmental Sciences. It offers 68 undergraduate, 28 master's, two doctoral programs, and two associate degree programs.

In the fall of 2020, 14,000 students were enrolled representing 46 states and 32 countries. Famous alumni at the school include Ben Barnes, Christopher S. Adams, DeWayne Burns, James Dearth, Richard Bartel, and Ryan Bingham.

The sports teams compete at the NCAA Division I in the Western Athletic Conference.

The Texans athletic teams include:
