Texas A&M University—Kingsville (TAMUK) is a private research university in Kingsville, Texas. Not only is it the southernmost campus of the Texas A&M University System, but it is the oldest continuously operating public institution of higher learning in South Texas. TAMUK is classified among R2: Doctoral Universities—High research activity.

History

Chartered as the South Texas Normal School in 1917, the school delayed its opening to WWI. In 1925, South Texas State Teachers was founded, and the name changed in 1929 to Texas College of Arts and Industries. It became a member of the TAMU System in 1989 and was renamed Texas A&M University—Kingsville in 1993.

Academics & Campus

Located 40 miles southwest of Corpus Christi and 120 miles north of Mexico, the Kingsville campus encompasses 1,601 acres of land. Consisting of 85 buildings, the university has seven academic colleges. There are Colleges of Agriculture, Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Human Performance, Engineering, Graduate Studies, and Natural Resources and Human Sciences.

Texas A&M offers 61 master's, 56 undergraduate degree programs, and six doctoral degrees. The bilingual education program was the first of its kind in the U.S. and continues to be one of the strongest. There are also programs in agriculture, engineering, music, the sciences, and wildlife. Additionally, since 1928, it was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The student body is comprised of 6,357 students and represents 35 countries and 40 U.S. states. TAMUK has roughly 105 student organizations divided into categories such as academic, cultural/international, community service, Greek, faith-based, health & recreation, honor societies, military, performing & visual arts, special interest, social & political issues, student government, and student media.

Athletics -Javelinas

The sports teams are members of the Lone Star Conference.

The Javelinas athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, beach volleyball, cross country, golf, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, and track & field.

The football team has 34 Conference Championships and seven National Championships. Texas A&M University—Kingsville holds the record as the Division II school with the most professional athletes signed by NFL teams. Go Blue & Gold!
