History

In 1897, the Branch Normal School was founded as the first teaching training school in southern Utah. The school was given university status in 1991.

Academics & Campus

Through its six colleges, Southern Utah University offers 140+ undergraduate degrees and 19 graduate programs. SSU has 1,800+ students each year. It is home to over 130+ clubs and organizations, which includes four Greek-letter organizations.

The sports teams compete in Division I of the NCAA and are members of the Big Sky Conference.

The Thunderbirds' athletic teams include:
