The State of New York University at Buffalo (UB) is a state research university with campuses in Buffalo and Amherst, New York. It is classified as an R1 University and engages in a very high level of research activity. In the 2021 edition of the U.S. News & World Report, UB is ranked 88^th for Best National Universities.

History

The university was established as a private medical college in 1846. It joined the SUNY system in 1962 and is informally considered to be a flagship public university for the state. Since 1989, Buffalo has been a member of the Association of American Universities.

Academics & Campus

The University at Buffalo is the largest and most comprehensive public university in New York. It is comprised of three campuses: North, South, and Downtown. It is one of two institutions that is established by the U.S. Presidents. The university is home to the largest state-operated dental school, medical school, business school, education school, pharmacy, school, and engineering school. It also has the only state-operated law school in the state.

Within its 13 colleges, UB offers 100+ areas of study, 205 master's degrees, and 84 doctoral degrees. The University at Buffalo enrolls 32,347 students, making it the largest public university in New York in the fall 2020 session.

Athletics –Bulls

The sports teams compete in the NCAA Division I as members of the Mid-American Conference.

The Bulls' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: basketball, cross country, football, tennis, track and field, and wrestling.

The football team is the only SUNY to be at the Division I FBS level. Buffalo is also the only SUNY school to have the men's and women's basketball teams nationally ranked. Because of its athletic success, UB is known as the athletic flagship of the SUNY system. Go Buffalo Bulls!
