The State University of New York at Binghamton (SUNY Binghamton) is a public research university in Binghamton, New York. It is one of the four university centers in the SUNY system. The university is ranked amongst R1: Doctoral Universities—Very high research activity. In the 2021 U.S. News & World Report, Binghamton is ranked tied for 88^th among national universities.

History

Founded in 1946, in Endicott, New York, the school began as a small, enlightened arts college called Triple Cities College. It was built in order to assist local veterans recovering from World War II. In 1965, the school was renamed the State University of New York at Binghamton to reflect its status as an advanced degree-granting institution.

Academics & Campus

The main Vestal campus covers nearly 930 acres and is located on a wooded hillside above the Susquehanna River. There are other campuses in Binghamton and Johnson City, New York. SUNY Binghamton provides 130+ academic undergraduate majors, minors, concentrations, certificates, specializations, emphases, and tracks. It also offers 60+ master's, 30 doctorates, and 50 accelerated degrees. In the fall of 2020, Binghamton enrolled nearly 18,128 undergraduate and graduate students.

Athletics –Bearcats

The sports teams compete in NCAA Division I as members of the America East Conference.

The Bearcats' athletic teams include baseball, basketball (M+W), cross-country (M+W), golf, lacrosse (M+W), soccer (M+W), softball, swimming, and diving (M+W), tennis (M+W), indoor/outdoor track (M+W), volleyball, and wrestling.
