Santa Clara University is a private Jesuit university in Santa Clara, California, in Silicon Valley. Carnegie Classification classifies the school as a Doctoral/Professional university. According to the 2021 U.S. News & World Report ranking of national universities, it is tied for 53^rd.

History

Many of Santa Clara's traditions date back to 1777, particularly where the campus is located, on the historical grounds of Mission Santa Clara de Asís. A Franciscan friar, Saint Junipero Serra, established Mission Santa Clara as the eighth of 21 Alta California missions. In 1851, The Bishop of Monterey, Dominican Joseph Sadoc Alemany, offered the site to Italian Jesuits as a foundation for a college. Santa Clara was the first to open its doors and is California's oldest operating institution of higher education.

Academics & Campus

The campus has expanded over the last century and a half to more than 106 acres. Through its six colleges, SCU offers 45 undergraduate majors. There are about 5,600+ undergrads and approximately 3,300 postgraduate students enrolled. Santa Clara provides 125 registered student organizations.

Athletics –Broncos

The sports teams are members of the West Coast Conference and play at the NCAA Division I Level.

The Broncos' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, beach volleyball, cross-country, track and field, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, track and field, golf, rowing, soccer, tennis, and water polo.

The women's soccer team is ranked in the top 25 nationally. In 1991, the women's basketball team won the WNIT. The men's basketball team has made several NCAA tournament appearances. Go Red & White!
