The Robert Morris University (RMU) is in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.

History

In 1921, the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy was founded by Andrew Blass. The school was renamed in 1935 as the Robert Morris School of Business to honor Robert Morris, the Founding Father and financier of the American Revolution. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania granted the school permission to award associate degrees in 1962, and it became Robert Morris Junior College.

In 1969, it was renamed again to Robert Morris College and offered bachelor's degrees in business administration. The first doctoral program was created in 1999. The school achieved university status in 2002 and finally became Robert Morris University.

Academics & Campus

The suburban campus consists of 230 acres near Pittsburgh International Airport. Almost 2,000 students live in the 14 residence halls and a former hotel in Yorktown Hall used for student housing. Additionally, it has a branch campus in downtown Pittsburgh.

RMU offers 60 bachelor's degree programs and 35 master's and doctoral programs. The School of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science is one of only 17 universities in the U.S. that is named a Center of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries. In addition, the university is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

There are almost 5,000 students enrolled, with most students from the Pittsburgh area. In 2018, 16% of freshmen were from outside PA. The university is home to 100+ student organizations, clubs, and activities on campus. There is 14% of women in sororities and 10% of men in fraternities.

Athletics -Colonials

The sports teams compete in NCAA Division I (FCS) in the Horizon League. The football team plays in the Big South Conference.

The Colonials athletic teams include:

Women: baseball, cross country, ice hockey, lacrosse, rowing, softball, soccer, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: basketball, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, and soccer.

The men's basketball team has played in eight NCAA Tournaments and won their first game in 1983. In 2008, the women's basketball team won the NEC Championship and appeared in the NCAA Tournament. Go Blue, White & Red!
