Pittsburg State University (PSU) is a public university in Pittsburg, Kansas. It is a member of the Kansas Board of Regents.
In 1903, the Auxiliary Manual Training Normal School was founded as a branch of the State Normal School of Emporia. It became a four-year institution called Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg in 1913. To reflect the broadened courses, the name was changed to Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1959. In 1977, it became Pittsburg State University.
Academics & Campus
The 223-acre campus is in southeast Kansas. On campus, there are two research institutes called the Kansas Polymer Research Center and the Business & Technology Institute. The university also operates a satellite campus, the Kansas City Metro Center Campus. Additionally, there are two degrees offered at Salina Area Technical College.
PSU is organized into four schools and colleges: College of Technology, College of Education, Kelce College of Business, and College of Arts and Science. The business college is accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business.
Approximately 7,400 students are enrolled at the university. Some recognized Greek organizations include seven fraternities (Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Sigma Kappa, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Tau Gamma, and Alpha Phi Alpha) and four sororities (Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Lambda Pi Upsilon).

Athletics – Gorillas
The sports teams compete in the NCAA Division II and, since 1989, have been a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The Gorillas athletic teams include:
Women: basketball, cross country, softball, track & field, and volleyball.
Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, and track & field.
The football program has produced the most wins in NCAA Division II history. It has been national champions four times, has won 27 conference championships, and has 13 conference titles. Go Crimson & Gold!
