Northeastern University (NEU) is a private research university in Boston, Massachusetts. It is classified among R2: Doctoral Universities—Very high research activity. In the 2021 U.S. News & World Report, NEU was tied for 49^th in the national university category.

History

In 1898, the Evening Institute for Younger Men was founded. In 1922, the school achieved university status and was renamed Northeastern University.

Academics & Campus

The main campus, located in the bustling city of Boston, has residential halls that can house as little as 50 students to as many as 1,000. In addition to its Boston location, Northeastern operates several satellite locations in Massachusetts, such as Burlington, Faneuil Hall, Dedham, and Nahant. There are also campuses in Charlotte, North Carolina; Seattle, Washington; San Jose, California; San Francisco, California; Toronto, Vancouver; Portland, Maine. In 2019, it purchased the New College of the Humanities in London, England.

The university provides undergraduate majors in 65 departments and 125 programs at the graduate level. Northeastern is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. The enrollment at NEU is roughly 19,000 undergraduate students and 8,600 graduates. The student body has access to 200+ student organizations, including various ethnic, cultural, and political organizations as well as honor societies, special interest groups, fraternities, and sororities.

Athletics –Huskies

The sports teams compete in NCAA Division I as members of the Colonial Athletic Association.

The Huskies' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, field hockey, ice hockey, rowing, soccer, swimming, and diving, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, ice hockey, rowing, soccer, and track and field.

The men's basketball team won its first CAA regular-season championship in 2013. The men's soccer team won the CAA title, and women's ice hockey won a record 16^th Beanpot championship. Go Red & Black!
