Morgan State University (MSU) is a public historically black research university (HBCU) in Baltimore, Maryland. It is known as the largest HBCU's in the state and is ranked amongst R2: Doctoral Universities—High research activity.

History

In 1867, Centenary Biblical Institute changed its name to Morgan College to honor Reverend Lyttleton Morgan, a land donor and the first chairman of its board trustees. MSU was recognized as an official university in 1975.

Academics & Campus

The university consists of twelve colleges, schools, and institutes, along with four traditional residence halls where almost 2,000 students live. While MSU is a federal university, it not a part of the University System of Maryland. However, it is a member of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Morgan awards Baccalaureate, Masters, and Doctorate degrees.

More than 7,698 students are enrolled at Morgan. The student body represents many foreign countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Nigeria. The most significant portion of the student population live outside of Maryland, such as New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Athletics –Bears

The sports teams compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The Bears' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, bowling, cross-country, softball, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and cheerleading.

Men: basketball, cross-country, football, tennis, and track and field.

The athletic teams at Morgan were legendary from the 1930s to the 1960s. There are over thirty football players that the NFL drafted, and many track athletes have received world-class status. 200+ men and women athletes have been inducted into the Morgan State University Hall of Fame. Go Blue & Orange!
