Lipscomb University is a private university in Nashville, Tennessee, that is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. In 2015, U.S. News & World Report ranked the university 18^th among Regional Universities in the South.

History

Founded in 1891, David Lipscomb and James A. Harding intended for the school to function as a Christian liberal arts institution. David donated his estate for the school's campus, and it was initially named Nashville Bible School. Today, it is still affiliated with the Churches of Christ, and there is a seminary attached to the university.

Academics & Campus

The campus is in the Green Hills neighborhood and comprises seven residence halls. Additionally, there are two satellite locations in the Cool Springs area of Franklin, Tennessee, and in Downtown Nashville. The university also has numerous study-abroad programs in Vienna, Austria; Heredia, Costa Rica; Florence, Italy; and London, United Kingdom.

Enrollment in the fall of 2016 was 4,632 students. Although Lipscomb University doesn't have Greek life, there are several social clubs.

Athletics -Bison

The sports teams are a member of NCAA Division I and participate in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The Bison athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track & field.

At one point in time, the school was a small-college sports powerhouse, specifically in baseball and basketball in the NAIA. The men's basketball team has an all-time record of 177-179 and a 96-76 record in Atlantic Sun games. They won their first Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Tournament title in 2018 and have also won the regular-season conference two times. Also, in 2018, the Bison's appeared in the NCAA Tournament. The Go Purple & Gold!
