Kutztown University of Pennsylvania (KU) is a public university in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. It is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and belongs to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

History

In 1866, the Keystone Normal School was first established and specialized in teacher education. It was renamed Kutztown State Teachers College in 1928, and eventually, the school expanded its programs. In 1960, the college became Kutztown State College, and approximately twenty years later, it was finally known as the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in 1983.

Academics & Campus

The university is a census-designated place located in Maxatawny Township, just outside of Kutztown. The campus comprises one suite-style hall, three apartment-style coed complexes, and fourteen residence halls, which can house 4,600+ students.

Within its four undergraduate colleges, KU offers programs in business, education, the liberal arts and sciences, the visual and performing arts, and several graduate studies. Kutztown provides master's degrees in 18 subjects and a Doctorate of Social Work.

As of Fall 2018, the enrollment was roughly 8,300 students. They have access to approximately 170 student organizations such as academic, advisory councils, campus media, comedy, cultural events, dances, diversified interests, Greek Life, and lots more.

Athletics -Golden Bears

The sports teams are NCAA Division II members and participate in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

The Golden Bears athletic teams include:

Women: acrobatics & tumbling, basketball, bowling, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, tennis, track & field, and wrestling.

In 2006, the university was awarded the Dixon Trophy for being the best overall athletic program in the PSAC. Alumni like Andre Reed, John Mobley, Doug Dennison, and Ryan Vogelsong have become famous athletes. Go Maroon & Gold!
