Kennesaw State University (KSU) is a public research university in Georgia with two primary campuses in Kennesaw and Marietta. It is classified among R2: Doctoral Universities—High research activity and is part of the University System of Georgia. In the 2020 U.S. News rankings, Kennesaw State placed in Tier Two in the National Universities category.

History

In 1963, Cobb County Junior College was chartered by the Board of Regents. The school was named Kennesaw Junior college in the fall of 1966. It finally achieved university status in 1996.

Academics & Campus

With the two combined campuses in Marietta and Kennesaw, they take up a total of 518 acres of land. KSU also offers classes at the Cobb Galleria Centre, Dalton State College, and Paulding County, Dallas. Within its 13 colleges, there is one specialist degree, five doctoral programs, 21 master's degree programs, and 52 bachelor's degrees.

Kennesaw State has several academic programs in sports management, physical sciences, nursing, information technology, engineering, education, criminal justice, and business. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

In the fall of 2020, enrollment surpassed 41,000 students, making Kennesaw State the second-largest university by enrollment in the state. The campus is home to 300+ registered student groups and organizations such as Club Sports, Greeks, and Religious Life. It also has twenty-one sororities and fraternities.

Athletics -Owls

The sports teams have been an NCAA Division I member of the Atlantic Sun Conference since 2005. The football team is an FCS member of the Big South Conference.

The Owls athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis, and track & field.

In 1996, the baseball and softball teams won the NCAA Division II national championships. KSU is one of two Divison II schools to win a national championship in four team sports. Go Black & Gold!
