Jacksonville University (JU) is a private university in Jacksonville, Florida.
In 1934, William J. Porter founded William J. Porter University as a private two-year college. It then changed to Jacksonville Junior College in 1935. Over the next fifteen years, the school relocated three times until the administration purchased land in Jacksonville in 1947. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredited the college in 1950. Jacksonville Junior College merged with the Jacksonville College of Music in 1958, and it was renamed Jacksonville University.
Academics & Campus
The 250-acre urban campus comprises four colleges and two institutes: the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Davis College of Business, the College of Fine Arts, the Marine Science Research Institute, and the Public Policy Institute.
The university provides 100+ majors, minors, and undergraduate programs along with 23 master’s and doctorate degree programs. Jacksonville is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is also a member of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida.
In Fall 2019, JU enrolled 2,938 undergraduates and 1,236 postgraduates. The student population represents 40+ U.S. states and roughly 45 countries. 15% of the school participates in Greek life. At the university, there is a diverse range of activities and organizations such as arts, academic and professional, multicultural, political and social action, religious, service and professional, sports and recreation, and special interest groups.

Athletics – Dolphins
The sports teams participate in NCAA Division I in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The rowing program competes in the MAAC Conference.
The Dolphins athletic teams include:
Women: basketball, beach volleyball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, track & field, and volleyball.
Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, rowing, and soccer.
The baseball team has five 40-win seasons, six conference championships, and nine NCAA regional appearances. There are also 50 all-conference selections, 44 players have been drafted by Major League Baseball organizations and 10 All-American honorees. Alumni such as Artis Gilmore, Otis Smith, Pembrook Burrows III, and Rex Morgan have gone on to be professional basketball players. Go Green & White!
