Indiana State University (ISU) is a public university in Terre Haute, Indiana. It is classified among D/PU: Doctoral/Professional Universities.

History

In 1865, Vigo Collegiate Institute was founded, and several years later, the school closed. Now, it is part of the Indiana State University campus. The Indiana General Assembly established the university in 1865 as the Indiana State Normal School. The core mission of the school was to educate elementary and high school teachers. In 1965, the Indiana General Assembly renamed the college Indiana State University after the student population significantly increased along with the degrees offered.

Academics & Campus

The main campus covers 200+ acres and is located on the north side of Terre Haute's downtown. It comprises more than 60 buildings, including six academic colleges. ISU provides 100+ programs in the following schools: the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Health and Human Services, Technology, and the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. The university offers 22 master's degrees, 20 bachelor's degrees, seven doctoral degrees, and several professional certifications.

Since 1915, Indiana State has been accredited by The Higher Learning Commission. It is also a member of the College Consortium of Western Indiana. There are approximately 12,144 students enrolled. The student body represents many different states and countries such as Saudi Arabia, India, and China. 74% of students are from Indiana.

Athletics -Sycamores

The sports teams participate in the Division I Missouri Valley Conference and NCAA FCS Missouri Valley Football Conference.

The Sycamores athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, and track & field.

In 1950, the men's basketball team won the NAIB National Champions and was National Runner-Up in 1946 and 1948. Go Blue & White!
