High Point University (HPU) is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the United Methodist Church in High Point, North Carolina. In 2019, the U.S. News & World Report ranked the university as the No. 1 Best Regional College in the South for the seventh time.

History

In 1921, the Methodist Protestant Church voted to establish a college, and shortly after, the citizens of High Point contributed 60 acres of land. As a result, the school was founded in 1924 as High Point College. Under the guidance of the board of trustees and the college's president Jacob C. Martinson, Jr., the school was renamed High Point University in 1991.

Academics & Campus

Roughly 108,285 people live in the area, of High Point. The university is a residential campus and has 19 residence halls. HPU provides 51 undergraduate minors, 47 undergraduate majors, and twelve graduate-degree majors. The enrollment was 1,450 students in 2005, and in 2018, there were 4,545, making it a 213% increase. There are 17 Greek organizations at HPU governed by the councils: Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council.

Athletics -Panthers

The sports teams participate in the Big South Conference at the NCAA Division II level.

The Panthers athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, and track & field.

The teams have won nine Big South Conference Championships, there have been ten Conference Players of the Year, and 130+ athletes have received Big South All-Academic Honors. Go Purple & White!
