In 1971, Florida Atlantic expanded its campus to Fort Lauderdale. Originally, FAU only served upper-division and graduate-level students, but in 1984, lower-division undergraduate students were allowed to study at the school. A year later, the university opened its third campus on Las Olas Boulevard.
