History

In 1925, Talton Higbee Embry and John Paul Riddle established the Embry-Riddle Company at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. A year later, they founded the Embry-Riddle School of Aviation. However, the flying school closed in 1930 after it merged with the Aviation Corporation. In 1939, John Graham McKay and his wife rebuilt the school in Miami, Florida. John F. Kennedy was an alumnus of the school. In 1965, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute was moved to Daytona Beach. It became a nonprofit in 1959 and, in 1968, achieved university status.
