What is the History of Eastern Kentucky University?

In 1906, Governor J.C. Beckham signed the bill to establish the Eastern Kentucky State Normal School. It wasn't until 1966 that the school was officially renamed Eastern Kentucky University.

Which NCAA Sports do the Colonels Play?

The sports teams compete in the NCAA Division I as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Colonels' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, beach, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, and track and field.

The football team has captured 22 OVC conference titles and two Division I-AA National Championships. The men's basketball team won the Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship three times. The men's and women's cross-country have won at least ten OVC Championships. Go Colonels!
