What is the History of DePaul University?

Established in 1898 by the Vincentians, the university gets its name from Saint Vincent de Paul, the 17^th-century French priest. In 1998, it became the largest Catholic university by enrollment in the nation. Following in the footsteps of its founders, DePaul emphasizes admitting first-generation students and others from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Which NCAA Sports Do the Blue Demons Play?

DePaul's sports teams compete in NCAA Division I and are members of the Big East Conference.

The Blue Demons' athletics program includes:

Women: basketball, softball, cross country, track and field, soccer, volleyball, and tennis.

Men: basketball, golf, cross country, track and field, soccer, and tennis.

In 1943, DePaul made it to the Final Four. The school's only national championship came in 1945 after winning the NIT. DePaul has been to the NCAA tournament 22 times and NIT Tournament 16 times. In 2017, the men's track and field team won the university's first male sports Big East championships. Go Blue Demons!
