The campus consists of multiple residence halls in four different areas in addition to four colleges. CWU offers more than 300 majors, minors, and specializations. What is the Historyof Central Washington University?

In 1890, the state legislature founded the Washington State Normal School with the purpose of training instructors in the art of teaching and supervising in state schools. The first building, called Barge Hall, was constructed three years later. In 1937, the Washington Legislature authorized a name change to Central Washington College of Education. It finally became CWU in 1977.

Which NCAA Sports do the Wildcats Play?

The sports teams are a member of NCAA Division II and compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The Wildcats' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, rugby, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, rugby, and track and field.

The rugby team is wildly successful and was established in 1972. The team regularly defeated larger Division I universities and played in the College Premier Division until 2013. They moved to the Varsity Cup competition and finished the season in sixth place in the country. Go Crimson & Black!
