Cleveland State University (CSU) is a public research university in Cleveland, Ohio. It is part of the University System of Ohio and is classified among R2: Doctoral Universities—High research activity.

History

Founded in 1964, the State of Ohio purchased Fenn College and established a commuter college that targeted residents in the area. The new institution became Cleveland State University. CSU absorbed the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law five years later.

Academics & Campus

The main campus is located in downtown Cleveland. There is also a satellite campus in Westlake, Ohio. In total, there are 200+ academic programs offered, including 70 academic majors, 27 master's degree programs, two post-master degrees, six doctoral degrees, and two law degrees.

Cleveland State is home to 4 NIC fraternities, 4 NPC sororities, and 4 NPHC organizations. As of spring 2013, the student body was more than 17,000. There are 55% women, 45% men, as well as 27% minorities. The university has 120,000+ alumni.

Athletics – Vikings

The sports teams compete in NCAA Division I as a member of the Horizon League. The wrestling team is a member of the Mid-American Conference.

The Vikings' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, fencing, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, fencing, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and wrestling.

The university has won the McCafferty Trophy twice. The baseball team has won two conference team championships. The men's basketball team has won a total of five conference championships and three tournament championships. Go Green & White!
