In 1887, a 26-year-old Baptist preacher, James Archibald Campbell, established Buies Creek Academy. At the beginning of the 20th Century, the young school tragically burned down in a suspicious fire. In 1903, the new building was erected and brought new life to the institution. The college achieved senior-college status in 1961.
