California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) is a public university in Hayward, California. It is part of the 23-campus California State University system and is identified as a Top 10 university for diversity in the west, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Established in 1957, the university began as Alameda State College with the main focus to serve the higher education needs for Alameda County and Contra Costa County. In 2005, the school changed its name to California State University, East Bay.
Academics & Campus
The largest and oldest main campus is located on a plateau east of the Hayward fault that overlooks the southeast part of Hayward. California State University, East Bay has a campus in Concord, California, as well as a professional development center in Oakland. The Hayward campus's academic departments are organized into four colleges; two of them are Liberal Arts colleges. CSUEB offers 52 undergraduate degrees, 39 master’s programs, a teacher education program, and a doctoral program in Educational Leadership.
The total enrollment at the university is 14,823 students. In the entire CSU system, CSUEB has the largest enrollment percentage of Filipino Americans, the second largest enrollment percentage of Pacific Islanders, African Americans, and non-residents as of fall 2018.

The sports teams are members of the NCAA Division II and compete within the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The water polo team competes in the Western Water Polo Association.
The Pioneers’ athletics program include:
Women: basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, track and field, volleyball, and water polo.
Men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, and track and field.
The women’s soccer team won the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship in 1988. The Pioneers have earned 2 NCAA team championships at the Division II level. Go Red & Black!
