Bemidji State University (BSU) is a public university in Bemidji, Minnesota. It is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

History

Founded in 1919 as the Bemidji State Normal School, the preparatory school for teachers contributed to higher education in north-central Minnesota. In 1975, the school was renamed Bemidji State University.

Academics & Campus

The campus consists of five residence halls, apartments, and numerous academic buildings. BUS has had a relationship with a university in China called Liaoning University for sixteen years. Bemidji State offers 47 fields of study as well as online courses. The current enrollment is approximately 5,300 students, representing 44 states and 40 countries. The university provides 100+ clubs and organizations, which include two active Greek life organizations.

Athletics –Beavers

The sports teams compete in NCAA Division II as Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference members.

The Beavers' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, golf, ice hockey, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, football, golf, and ice hockey.

In 2009, the men's ice hockey team qualified for the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Go Beavers!
