Ball State University (BSU) is a public research university in Muncie, Indiana. It is classified among R2: Doctoral Universities—High research activity.

History

Founded in 1917 by the Ball brothers, the Indiana State Normal School has 235 students enrolled. By 1965, the General Assembly approved the school to be renamed Ball State University.

Academics & Campus

The campus spans 731 acres and has 109 buildings, including 14 residence halls. There are two satellite facilities—one in Fishers and the other in Indianapolis. Within its seven academic colleges, BSU offers 120 undergraduate majors, 130 minors, and 100+ master's, doctoral, certificate, and specialist degrees.

As of fall 2020, the total enrollment was 21,597 students. About 25% are out-of-state, and 23% are ethnic minorities. Ball State enrolls over 300 international students. The university is home to 600+ student organizations and clubs, along with 31 fraternities and sororities.

Athletics –Cardinals

The sports teams compete in Division I of the NCAA as members of the Mid-American Conference, the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, and the Esports Collegiate Conference.

The Cardinals' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, football, golf, swimming and diving, tennis, and volleyball.

The teams at Ball State became a powerhouse after they won a record of seven MAC tournaments and made appearances in the 1981 and 2000 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournaments. BSU has also won six conference championships in football and has appeared in seven NCAA Division I postseason bowl games.
