Brown University is a private Ivy League research university. It is the first American college to accept students regardless of their religious affiliation. Only the best faculty and students come here to not only advance in their careers but learn how to have a significant impact on the world.

History

Brown was founded in 1764, originally known as the College in the English Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. It is the seventh-oldest institution of higher education in the U.S. and one of the nine colonial colleges charted before the American Revolution.

Academics & Campus

The esteemed campus is located in the vibrant capital, Providence, Rhode Island. There are over 300 registered student organizations and 11 residential Greek houses. About 12% of Brown students participate in fraternities and sororities.

Admissions are the most selective in the nation and only have an acceptance rate of about 7%. This means that the 9,000+ students enrolled are not only lucky but among the brightest learners in the world. They have 80+ undergraduate programs to choose from, along with 84 doctoral and master’s programs.

The undergraduates at Brown enjoy the freedom to study whenever they choose and have the ability to discover their passions at any given time. Known for a student-centered model of learning, Brown’s Open Curriculum is a flexible, rigorous approach to education. Students are compelled to think creatively, take risks, and become entrepreneurial problem-solvers. They leave Brown with newfound independence and the knowledge to thrive in any career path that they choose.
