Bloomsburg University (BU) is a public university in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. It is one of 14 public universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. According to the U.S. News and World Report, it is 104^th of the Best Regional Universities.

History

Founded as Bloomsburg Academy in 1839, the school was renamed Bloomsburg Literary Institute in 1856. In 1983, it was renamed Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Academics & Campus

The campus is located on a hill overlooking the Town of Bloomsburg and is situated a few hundred yards from the community’s business district. BU has eight residence halls. It also offers for-credit classes and degree completion programs at various community colleges.

The university offers 57 undergraduate degree programs with over 66 minors and 19 graduate degree programs. It is accredited by the Middle States Commission. In 2019-20, Bloomsburg University had 7,992 undergrads and 697 graduates enrolled. There are 250+ clubs and organizations.

Athletics –Huskies

The sports teams compete in NCAA Division II as members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

The Huskies’ athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, and wrestling.

BU has won thirteen NCAA Division II team championships. Go Maroon & Gold!
