Belmont State University is a private Christian university in Nashville, Tennessee. In the 2020 rankings for the National Universities category, Belmont was tied for No. 166.

History

Established in 1890 by professors Ida Hood and Susan Heron, the university was founded as Belmont Women's College. In 1991, the school became Belmont University, maintained by the Belmont Mansion Association.

Academics & Campus

Within its nine colleges, the university offers bachelor's degrees in 90+ academic majors, 25+ master's programs, and five doctoral programs. Belmont State enrolls more than 8,200 students representing every state and 28 nations. It has more than 190 student organizations, such as Greek life and other special interest organizations.

Athletics –Bruins

The sports teams participate in the NCAA Division I as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Bruins' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field.

In 2011, the student-athletes won the Atlantic Sun Conference Academic Trophy eight times. Belmont won the OVO Institutional Academic Achievement Award for the first time in 2012. Go Red & Blue!
