Albany State University (ASU) is a historically black public university in Albany, Georgia. According to the 2019 U.S. News & World Report, it was ranked 40^th for undergraduate education among HBCUs.

History

In 1903, a son of former slaves, Joseph Winthrop Holley, founded the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute. Fourteen years later, the school was turned over to Georgia as a two-year agricultural and teacher-training institution called Georgia Normal and Agricultural College. In 1932, it became part of the University System of Georgia, and in 1943, it was granted four-year status.

Academics & Campus

The university has two campuses in Albany and a satellite campus in Cordele. ASU offers 13 certificate degrees, 14 associate degrees, 30 baccalaureates degrees, and 12 graduate degrees. Nearly 6,500 students come mainly from Atlanta, Southwest, and Central Georgia. There are 59+ clubs and organizations to choose from.

Athletics –Golden Rams

The sports teams participate in NCAA Division II as a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member.

The Rams' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, football, and track and field.

The university has won over 100 championships. Go Rams!
